Emerson is home to 3 public schools that serve the town’s students.  Memorial Elementary and Patrick M. Car Transportation

Emerson, NJ has easy access to many major roads and highways that connect it with the county, the state, and the rest of the country.  Though no major highways intersect the borough it has the Garden State Parkway and State Route 17 to the West as well as State Route 4 and Interstate 80 to the South.  Many New York City Commuters use car transportation through the George Washington Bridge, Holland Tunnel, or Lincoln Tunnel depending on what part of the City they need to access.

Mass Transit

New Jersey Transit services Emerson through both train and bus service.  Both forms of transportation have stops at Emerson Station, which is located at the intersection of Linwood Ave and Kinderkamack Rd.  Additional bus stops are available along Kinderkamack Rd.

Trains

Emerson Train Station is a part of the NJ Transit system under the Pascack Valley Line.  The line runs to the Hoboken Terminal with connections at Secaucus.  At Hoboken you can connect to NY Waterways, PATH service, and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.  At Secaucus you can transfer to New York Penn Station and other East Coast locations like Boston or Washington, DC.  The station is frequented daily by locals who travel into Manhattan and other destinations for work.  Parking is available at 3 lots adjacent to the train station.  You should contact Borough Hall to get information on how to use the lots for commuter parking.

Buses

Bus transportation is also a vital element of commuter accessibility to New York City.  NJ Transit operates buses throughout the area with stops along Kinderkamack Rd and at Emerson Train Station.  NJ Transit Bus 165 connects Westwood and New York City with stops in Emerson.  The 165 Bus schedule is subject to change.  Buses run regularly on weekdays and take about an hour depending on traffic to reach the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan.

Air Travel

The Emerson area is services by 3 major international airports Newark Liberty International, John F Kennedy Airport, and Laguardia International Airport with flights to every destination possible.  All major carriers are available and schedules are regular.  Teterboro airport also offers executive and private air travel that is convenient to Emerson.

About Emerson

Emerson is a borough in North Eastern Bergen County just miles from New York City with a population around, 7,800 (according to the 2010 US Census).  Though the area was inhabited by the lenape tribe for centuries the first Europeans to settle in Emerson came around 1748.  The borough was incorporated until 1903.  Today Emerson is a mix of ages, races, and religions creating a vibrant place for singles, married couples, families, and retirees.  There are 8 (Ackerman, Centennial, Woods, Griffin, Hillman, Sunset, Veterans, and    Washington) parks that offer everything from walking paths to basketball courts and Little League fields.

The Emerson Public Library is a part of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System that links libraries from across Bergen County to share services and to create more opportunities for residents.  The library offers programs for all ages throughout  the year.  The Recreation Departments also offers programs throughout the year for all ages kids to seniors.  Information on particular youth sports programs can be found at the following addresses.
